Students from Northlands, Harrington Sound, West End and Saltus were the division winners at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.

More than 600 runners took part in the races, which started and finished at the stadium via the Arboretum.

Kelise Wade, of Northlands, set the tone for the races when she won the Under-9 girls’ competition after leading from start to finish in a time of 10min 12sec. Gabrielle Cechini, of Somersfield, came second in 10:21, while Antoinette Barry of Warwick Academy placed third in 10:29.

West Pembroke, with two finishers in the top team, placed first in the girls’ under-9 standings with 75 points, while Somersfield finished second with 100 points and Bermuda High School third with 102 points.

Ta’han Eve, of Harrington Sound, won the boys’ uunder-9 race in 9:36, defeating a field of older runners to win by almost 30 seconds over Carter Thomas, of Somersfield, and Chan Pacheco-Hill, of Warwick Academy, who were separated by just three seconds in the battle for second. Thomas clocked 10:01 and Pacheco-Hill 10:04.

Saltus took the under-9 boys’ team title with 61 points, while Harrington Sound came second with 111 points and West Pembroke third on 113 points.

Legend Stevenson, of West End Primary, and Somersfield’s Ellise Dickinson were neck and neck coming out of the Arboretum in the over-9 girls’ race before Stevenson had produced an extra kick to win in 9:36, with Dickinson second in 10:01 and Shinya Cumbermack, of Purvis, third in 10:04, identical times to the top three in the junior boys’ race.

Warwick Academy claimed the boys’ team title with 99 points, while Harrington Sound came second with 115 points and Saltus placed third with 120 points.

Tyler Coleman, of Saltus, won the final race of the day after he clocked 9:46 in the over-9 boys’ race to win by 11 seconds over Max Kimberly, of Warwick Academy, in 9:57.

Harrington Sound’s Shuaib Worrell completed the top three, finishing in 10:03.

Saltus picked up a second team title with their 47 points in the over-9 boys’ contest, beating out Warwick Academy by just a point after the latter had three finishers in the top five, with Harris Fleming and Ralph Scott finishing fourth and fifth, ahead of Tom Hyland, of Saltus, in sixth place.
