Tyler Smith placed eighteenth in his first triathlon of the season in Huelva, Spain, yesterday.

Smith competed in the ETU European Cup and Iberoamerican Championships over the Olympic distance and was well placed after the swim and bike before losing ground on the run as several competitors, including winner Barclay Izzard, of Britain, passed him. He had splits of 19min 31sec, 58:41 and 34:24 for an overall time 1:54:16. Izzard’s winning time was 1:52:01
