Phillips makes winning start in Barcelona

Daniel Phillips has made a strong start to the Sánchez-Casal Youth Under-14 Cup in Barcelona.
The 14-year-old defeated Mattia Salvator, of Italy, 7-6, 6-4 in his opening qualifying match yesterday before beating Maxime Salesses, of France, 6-1, 6-3 later that day.
Phillips, who attends the Rafa Nadal Academy in Majorca, continued his good from by beating Sidney Huet, of the Holland, 6-0, 6-3 today. Phillips will be back in action today when he takes on Alejo Quilez, of Spain, in the main draw. In the doubles competition today, Phillips and Niklas Hoffman, of Germany, will face Romanian pair David Gheorghe and Cristian Marton.
