Butterfield finishes seventh in Florida

Tyler Butterfield produced a strong performance at the Ironman Florida to finish seventh in a time of 8hr 5min 38sec on Saturday.

Butterfield, along with eventual winner Joe Skipper, of England, trailed the leaders out after swim by about 2½ minutes with a 53 minutes flat time.

Skipper, a strong cyclist, began to make inroads into the leaders but Butterfield was unable to match that pace, recording a 4:21:42 180-kilometre bike time.Butterfield did, however, produce the third fastest marathon time in 2:42:48 but he had too much time to make up to break into the top three.

Skipper clocked 2:39:01 for the run to take the win in an overall time of 7:46:28 ahead of Ben Hoffman, of the United States, who, despite the fastest run of the day in 2:36:09, gave up too much time to Skipper on the bike and finished in 7:48:29.

Andrew Starykowicz, of the US, trailed Skipper by eight minutes going into the run but he is too is a renowned runner and his 2:58:36 run pushed him into third place.

Zoey Roberts also competed for Bermuda finishing a creditable 26th in her 40-44 age group.
