Daniel Phillips through to final in Guatemala

Bermudian Daniel Phillips has reached the final of the J4 Guatemala Tournament which is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors circuit.

Phillips, who had to come through a qualifying tournament to earn his place at the event, will face seventh-seed Diego Duran, of El Salvador, today, having overcome Guatemala’s RafaelBotran Neutze convincingly in straight sets, 6-1,6-3, today.

The 16-year-old got his tournament off to the perfect start with victory over Chile’s Mikel Josu Garmendia De La Iglesia 6-3, 6-4, in the first round earlier this week.

Building on that momentum, further success followed in the second round, with a hard fought victory against Humza Noor of the United States, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, before he comfortably defeated Atakan Karahan of Turkey 6-2, 6-1 to reach the final four.
