Deloitte Open returns to Pomander Gate
The Deloitte Open Tennis and Pickleball Tournament will take place at Pomander Gate Tennis Club starting tomorrow.
Pickleball, featured for the second time in the annual tournament will see the island’s best players go head-to-head competing in singles and doubles events at various skill levels.
Women’s, men’s and mixed doubles competitions are open for pickleball registration at levels of the 3.4 and below, and 3.5 and above.
New to the pickleball event categories, the tournament will play host to advanced players in a 4.0 and above division for men’s singles and doubles as well as a junior fun event.
The junior event, aimed at players between the ages of 10 and 14, seeks to introduce the game to a new generation of players and will see them paired with rotating partners. Referees will help with scoring and court positioning.
“It is both an honour and a pleasure to be tournament director for the Deloitte Tennis and Pickleball Tournament,” said Ian Gordon. “Deloitte has been a generous sponsor for over ten years.
“Their support for this tournament and the sport of tennis, and the emerging sport of pickleball is greatly appreciated by Pomander Gate Tennis Club.
This year we are free from the Covid protocols, and we look forward to welcoming both players and spectators to enjoy the tournament.”
The tournament, among the most popular on the tennis calendar in Bermuda, will be sanctioned by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association and will offer valuable ranking points.
Furthermore, it comes at an exciting time of year with many overseas players returning home eager to make their mark on the local tennis scene.
“It is a great opportunity to see some of the best players both old and young in competition,” Gordon added.
