Latisha Daniels and Sarah Robinson star as Hardknockz defeat PHC
It was a short week for softball, with games only played on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Hurricane Fiona and Queen Elizabeth's funeral.
In the women's division, Hardknockz downed PHC Zebras 20 to 8 with Latisha Daniels (4-4) and Sarah Robinson (3-3) showing excellent plate discipline in powering Hardknockz to victory.
Rasheen Durrant (2-4) scored four times, while Kisentae Grant had the club's only extra-base hit with a double.
PHC started well with two runs in the first innings but could never get their bats going. From the last spot in the order, Risha Trott (2-3) was the only player to get more than one hit with Tahirah Hill and Ciera Fox registering one hit apiece.
The other women's contest featured Western Stars Angels turning Rainbows blue with a 28 to 12 triumph.
That success meast that Western Stars takes now have sole possession of first place after beating the previously undefeated Rainbows.
Angels scored four runs in the first inning and never took their foot off the pedal. They put an exclamation point on the win by scoring 11 times in the last frame.
Leadoff batter Casandra led by example as she was 5-5 while scoring four times but there are plenty of accolades to go around as Keisha Eve (4-6, 5 runs, 3 RBI), Debbie Deshields (4-6, 3 runs, 5 RBI), Rachel Smith (4-6, 1 run, 1 RBI), and Andrenica Gilbert (2-4, 4 RBI) all contributed. Eve and Deshields had two doubles each, with the latter picking up a leg triple.
Adrienne Smatt showed off her bat skills in going 4-4 and driving home two runs. Teammates Jade Weaver (3-4) and Katie Masters (2-4) also drove home two runs apiece.
Moongate Brewers silenced the X-Bats 24 to 9 in a Group Z contest, with Moongate now 2-0 and X-Bats falling to 1-1. Alex Styche and Terrence Corday had eight of Moongate's 27 hits.
They both scored four times, thanks partly to Richard Medeiros blasting a three-run homer and a grand slam as he collected nine RBIs, while Danny Cook (3-3) also homered and had 4 RBIs.
X-Bats had a tremendous first inning in scoring five times, including three on Mike Trebbing's homer. Robbie Bailey (3-3), John King (2-3), and Brett Farlow all had good turns at the plate in the loss.
There were three forfeits this week. The Corporation of Hamilton picked up a default win over Raggamuffins, and Mike's Trucking was awarded a victory after a player from Super Express was ejected and the club had no bench player to replace him. It was a costly loss for the previously undefeated Express as they now only share the lead in Group C.
Parquet Flyers also picked up the easiest of wins when Blue Wahoos defaulted in their Group Z match.
