Skyport Magic Mile event set to return next month
Parents are urged to register any interested children between four and 15 for the 26th instalment of the youth running race, which was founded by the Bermuda Pacers Track Club and sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletics Association.
The event has become a staple on the community calendar, creating a platform to introduce Bermuda’s aspiring athletes to the discipline of track and field.
“We are delighted to once again partner with Bermuda Pacers Track Club to help bring to life the Skyport Magic Mile,” said Aaron Adderley, president of title sponsors Skyport.
“After more than a quarter of a century, the Skyport Magic Mile has come to mean so much to the community and has been the training ground for many of Bermuda’s most outstanding athletes.
“Prioritising the development and overall betterment of our young people through education, performing arts, sports, and other initiatives is the core of our community investment efforts and being able to sponsor this event for the fifth year running is highly gratifying.
“The benefits of sports participation go beyond the podium and include opportunities for personal, educational, and athletic development. The work we do today will yield community benefits for the future.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Wayne Raynor, president of Bermuda Pacers Track Club.
“A part of our mission at Pacers is to expand access to quality race training for Bermuda’s junior athletes,” he said.
“Track and field is a powerful tool for character building, developing healthy habits and possibilities to represent a school, club or even the nation.
“We are proud of our club's impact on Bermuda's track scene since 1981 and are excited by the community partnership we have established with Skyport, our title sponsor.”
This year, Skyport and Pacers have partnered with the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix and other community organisations to enhance the event experience.
The introduction of Bermuda Timing Systems courtesy of the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix will provide participants with accurate timing results that can be automatically e-mailed to each participant for a record of their achievements.
There will be giveaways throughout the day for participants and spectators and, for the first time, an immersive kids' village beyond the track.
Registration for the Skyport Magic Mile is now open online at www.racedayworld.com.
Physical entry forms are available at Sportseller in Washington Mall. The entry fee is $15 and must be paid by March 2 at not later than 5pm for paper entries and March 3 by 6pm for online entries.
Race bibs can be collected track side between 10am and 2pm on race day at the Flora Duffy Stadium. Limited parking will be available at the stadium, with official parking at the Arboretum.
Award presentations will follow on the field directly after each age division race.
