Five Bermuda-based runners completed the Abbott World Major Marathon Series Six Star Challenge in Tokyo last weekend.

Marcello Ausenda, Natalie Price, Marla Smith and Peter Tobin all added the Japanese event to marathons in Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London and New York to complete the challenge, while Gabriela Martin was completing her fifth. Bermuda is the country with the highest percentage of runners taking part in the challenge.

The Tokyo Marathon was being held for the first time since 2019 as a result of Japan’s strict Covid regulations and Tobin won bragging rights over his fellow challenge runners by finishing first in a time of 3hr 17min and 15secs. He was followed over the line by Martin (3:51:43), Ausenda (3:53:04), Price (5:04:40 and Smith (5:25:59).

Also completing the downtown course were Kevin Davies (4:43:48), Tim Price (5:04:40) and Kyle Smith (5:50:58).
