Dominant Jackson Langley claims gold in Florida

Title delight: Jackson Langley, centre, after winning the Youth Elite Male Category of the Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon, in Florida

Jackson Langley put in a dominant performance to clinch victory in the Youth Elite Male Category at the Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon in Florida on Saturday.

There was also a strong performance from compatriot Jacob Wright, who sealed a sixth-place finish in the USA triathlon series event.

Langley exited the 375-metre swim water in second position but quickly took the lead on the 12.2-kilometre bike leg, gaining almost a minute advantage over his nearest competitor, Canadian Turk Dingwall.

He maintained his lead over the 2.5k run, finishing strongly, to cross the line in 35min 31 sec and clinch the gold medal.

Wright also showed his capability on the bike leg of the event in Sarasota, moving up two places in the discipline after finishing the swim in seventh position. He ultimately lost one place on the run to finish sixth in a time of 40:09.

This is the second weekend of racing in the United States for the pair with Langley claiming two podium finishes in the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge last weekend.

“The win was a perfect end to two amazing weeks of competition,” said Langley.

Langley’s coach, his father Clive, heaped praise on the pair as he hailed the opportunity to test themselves overseas.

“I was really pleased with the boys’ performances in the United States,” he said. “These races gave them the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best triathletes in the region and it was encouraging to see the results of all the training pay off so early in the season.

“I hope that our young Bermudian triathletes can continue to race internationally this year and see what more they can accomplish.”
