Patricia Petty and Ian Pilgrim selected as triathlon officials for major events
Patricia Petty and Ian Pilgrim have both been selected as International Technical Officials in the sport of Triathlon for major upcoming events.
Petty, who received the Queen’s Certificate and Badge of Honour award for her services to the sport in 2019 after officiating at a number of major events including last year’s Commonwealth Games in England, has been selected by World Triathlon for the role at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
As part of the officials selected for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, there will be a total of 43 National Federations represented, and for the first time ever 50 per cent of the officials are female as World Triathlon strives to commit to greater gender balance within the organisation.
All five continents will also be represented among the selection, with representatives of 13 countries officiating at the Olympics or Paralympics for the first time.
Pilgrim has been selected for this year’s Pan American Games, which will be held in Santiago, Chile, from October 20 to November 5.
He will be representing Bermuda among 18 National Federations and could be officiating in any of the sport’s three medal events at the Games, the men’s and women’s races or Mixed Relay.
“The Technical Officials were selected in accordance with World Triathlon’s Technical Officials Appointment Rules, which is a multiphase process that involves creation of eligible list of officials, proposals from the National Federations from the list of eligible officials, selection by the World Triathlon Technical Committee and Technical Delegates and finally approval from the World Triathlon Executive Board,” said World Triathlon.
