Dage Minors pips Lamont Marshall to Legends Series Title
Front Street Mile champion Dage Minors picked up another honour when winning the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series on Sunday.
With double points on offer in the final race of the series, the Bermuda Healthcare Sir Stanley Burgess 5K, Minors, Lamont Marshall and Sean Trott were all in with a chance of capturing the men’s title and the three of the did not disappoint as they fought it out around the streets of Devonshire.
The three athletes pulled clear at the start with Minors and Marshall eventually breaking away from Trott, who has his eyes firmly fixed on the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby on May 26.
Heading into the final kilometre, the race was there for the taking and Minors’s finishing kick proved too strong, with him crossing the line in a time of 15min 10sec, just three seconds clear of Marshall, with Trott third in 16:19.
The victory gave Minors, 27, the Legend Series title with 93 points, seven points clear of Marshall, with Trott third on 66.
There was no surprise in the women’s race with Gayle Lindsay completing a clean sweep of wins with another victory. Her time of 18:44 was 26 seconds better than that posted by Bella Wright, with Maria Kemiji McDonald third in a time of 19:28.
Lindsay, 34, finished the overall series with a perfect 100 points, with Kemiji-McDonald finishing second on 72 points and Karen Smith finishing third.
Minors and Lindsay both picked up $2,500 for victory in the Legends Series.
