Bermuda volleyball teams head to Cayman Islands
The Bermuda Volleyball Association has announced two teams to represent the island in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Beach Tour in the Cayman Islands this weekend.
The Norceca Beach Tour is the signature beach volleyball tour for the North American, Central American and Caribbean zone, and Bermuda is sending Daniel Fiddick and Brian Amaro and Allison Settle and Hailey Moss to represent the island in the event taking place from Friday to Sunday.
This is the second time that Bermuda will be participating on the tour, with their maiden appearance last year in the same location.
BVA co-president, Elisabeth Rae, views the tournament as a great opportunity for the athletes to get more international exposure.
"The international experience gained through participation in this event will be invaluable to our Beach Volleyball Programme,“ she said.
“This is the second time Bermuda has attended a Norceca Beach Tour stop and the BVA is very excited about the development of its beach volleyball programme.
The Cayman Islands tournament presents the opportunity for the selected athletes to pick up tour points which allow them to compete at much bigger events in future.
Tour points will allow Bermuda to participate in larger events down the road such as the Central American Caribbean Games and Commonwealth Games,’’ Rae said.
Other countries that will be represented at the event include the United States, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Cayman, St Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas, US Virgin Islands, Haiti, Antigua, Anguilla, Dominica, Jamaica, Cuba and St Lucia.
