Warwick Academy achieve double in BSSF basketball
Warwick Academy won two titles at the Bermuda Schools Sports Federation basketball finals played at Mount St Agnes on Friday.
A 17-12 victory saw Warwick win the Middle School boys final before the senior girls defeated CedarBridge Academy 26-19 to complete the double.
The main attraction proved to be the senior boys final between CedarBridge Academy and MSA, which the former won 46-37.
A superb display by captain Kalila Daley inspired Whitney Institute to a 23-19 win over MSA in the Middle Schools girls finals.
Daley scored 19 of her team’s points, which saw them finish the season unbeaten having won all the six matches they played.
Whitney started off brightly to take a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and at half-time they were 12-6 ahead. The gap was further opened in the third quarter when the Vernon Lambe coached Whitney went 17-10 up.
While the home team, who enjoyed most of the support from the crowd did fight their way into the match in the last quarter, the visitors held on.
Meanwhile, MSA were 30-20 victorious over Saltus in the junior varsity boys final.
Winners in the respective age groups were presented with trophies and medals.
There were also medals for the runners up as well as Most Valuable player to a player from every team that appeared in the final.
