Caitlyn Bobb philosophical after failing to qualify for final
Bermudian athlete Caitlyn Bobb remained philosophical despite failing to qualify for the 400 metres final at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador on Tuesday.
Bobb finished seventh in heat one in 55.73, which was good enough for thirteenth overall, but the 20-year-old was pleased with her effort if not the result.
“I ran what I had in my tank and gave my all,’’ said Bobb.
“Even though my performance isn't what I wanted, that is the sport we call track and field. Every day you give your best, and your best isn’t always the fastest in the field.
“Going into my race, I felt confident, relaxed, and wanted to enjoy myself.
“Nothing went wrong in my race, but I am currently coming off an injury that happened in the winter, therefore missing an important part of my season.”
The youngster has a personal best of 51.84 and a season’s best of 53.44 but had lowered her expectations for the CAC Games.
“The season has been interesting for sure,’’ Bobb said.
“My target time heading into the CAC Games was lower than usual and running 53 anything was my goal.”
Bobb will now rest until her collegiate season resumes with conditioning sessions in October and competitions beginning in December.
