Blackburn claims fourth medal at Carib Champs
Lisa Blackburn continued her superb form as she claimed silver in the 50 metres breaststroke at the Caribbean Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.The medal haul for the 39-year-old reached four after having already won two golds and a silver.Her 50 breaststroke metres time was also a national record.Nicole Yearwood swam a personal best in the 200 metres freestyle final as she finished sixth.Nick Patterson and Jesse Washington also produced quality swims over the weekend, with both setting personal best times.“Nick swam a personal best in the 400 metres free but was unable to reach the finals, while Jesse swam a personal best in the 200m free,” said national coach Ben Smith.“He also swam a very good 50 fly dropping two seconds from his record breaking swim at the Carifta Championships and reached the finals in seventh place.“In the finals he lowered his record by six more tenths of a second and finished in fifth place after unfortunately choking on water during his last few strokes.“His time is faster than the National 13 and 14 age group record and he has already reached the AAA level in that age group even though he has just recently turned 12.”Yesterday was the final day of competition with Yearwood and Patterson swimming the 50 metres butterfly.Rebecca Heyliger and Lisa Blackburn were scheduled to compete in the 50 free, Yearwood in the 100 back and Washington in the 400 free.
