Aitken running out of chances
Bermuda swimmer Kiera Aitken is in a race against time to qualify for the Olympic Games in London.Aitken, who took part in the Beijing Olympic Games four years’ ago, has only one more chance in which to qualify for next month’s London Games after her disappointing display in Barcelona, Spain at the weekend.National team coach Ben Smith admitted the sand in Aitken’s egg timer was ebbing way with the Olympic qualification deadline just a couple weeks away.“She didn’t actually have a very good swim,” he said.“Kiera will be going to another meet in Cannae (Italy) where she will be hoping to qualify.”The veteran swimmer missed the mark by just one second in the 100 metres backstroke at the Catalan Cup Absolute Swimming Championships last month. Also competing at the weekend were Olympic hopefuls Lisa Blackburn, in California, and Julian Fletcher at the Trinidad National Championships. Both swimmers were due to compete in their respective 100 metres breaststroke finals last night.Roy-Allan Burch is the only local swimmer to have qualified for the Games.
