Island swimmers back in action
Bermuda’s rising stars in swimming took to the BASA pool on Saturday to showcase their talent at the Sharks club meet.In the first competition of the season, Maddie Moore and Emma Harvey were among those who put in solid performances.Harvey, competing in the 11 to 12 girls 100 metre freestyle, clocked one minute, 5.71 seconds, with Ashley Irby (1:06.29) and Isabelle Dutranoit (1:11.15) rounding out the top three.Moore’s time of one minute, 3.77 seconds was more than enough to get her the win in the 13 to 14 girls 100 metre freestyle.Shannon Hassel (1:05.32) was second, while Jessie Thomas (1:06.98) grabbed third place.In the 11 to 12 boys 100 metre freestyle, Jude Moseley touched the wall first in a time of one minute, 7.42, seconds, less than one second ahead of second placed Alex Pilgrim (1:08.04).Alex Bordage finished third with a time of one minute, 15.59 seconds.Philip Hagen swam his way to a win in the boys 15 and over 100 metre breaststroke, stopping the clock in one minute 6.59 seconds.Ferdinand Arnold (1:18.93) finished second, and Dejan Wellman (1:25:00) finished third.Many of those who attended the meet were swimming in competition for the first time.
