Blackburn reaches breaststroke final
Lisa Blackburn, the experienced Bermuda swimmer, has reached the final of the women’s 50m breaststroke at the CAC Games in Veracruz, Mexico.
She finished fourth in a time of 34.30sec in her heat and will be gunning for a podium place on Wednesday after Monday’s final was postponed because of bad weather.
Roy-Allan Burch, the Island’s top male swimmer, failed to qualify for the 50m butterfly final, placing fourth in his heat in a time of 24.77sec to settle for a place in the B final.
He will have one final chance to make the podium on Thursday when he competes in his favourite event — the 50m freestyle.
Burch has already finished seventh in the final of the 100m freestyle at the Games.
In the dressage competition, Virginia McKey, of Bermuda, improved on her Prix St Georges performance, where she ranked second last, to complete the Intermediate 1 competition eighteenth out of 22 riders.
But there was more bad news for Bermuda’s hockey team after they went down 5-0 to the Dominican Republic. They take on Guyana next in their final group game on Wednesday.
