Harbour Swim Club, the largest and oldest swim club in Bermuda, have continued their resurgence as a major force on the Island.

At this month’s Carifta Championships in Barbados, Harbour swimmers claimed a significant number of medals, including winning events in both the pool and the open water.

Shona Palmer, the team’s head coach, said: “Our multi-year development plan is yielding fantastic results and at the top end the swimmers continue to break Bermuda national records and medal in major events.

“We continue to add increased numbers to represent Bermuda at overseas meets and we also participate at overseas meets as a club to ensure our athletes get the experience of competing in different places, which can further challenge and develop them.”

Stephen Castree, the club’s performance director, added: “Harbour’s focus is based around a commitment to excellence, while fostering an environment to support developing athletes/

“This allows the club to offer swimmers from a young age, to the elite older age groups the opportunity to maximise their ability and also their enjoyment of the sport.”

Harbour athletes have represented Bermuda at all major levels.

Ashley Yearwood, a club member who is presently at Dennison University in the United States won two NCAA Division 3 titles with her team. Tyler Smith, the boys’ club captain and leading male triathlete on the Island, picked up the Junior Male Athlete of the Year award in the Sports Awards.

Harbour is poised for further growth and as part of their ongoing development plan, is increasing their membership size and adding further training sessions.

Palmer said: “The addition of further swim sessions will allow the club to offer different programmes to meet different needs, as well as allowing the club to increase its membership.”

On Saturday April 18 the club will be holding tryouts for new members to join. Harbour train at both the BASA pool at Saltus Grammar School as well as at the Aquatics Centre at the National Sports Centre.
