Impressive displays in the pool in Florida

More than 100 personal best times were recorded by a 23-member team of Harbour swimmers at a meet in Fort Myers, Florida on the weekend.

The team also had several podium finishes on their way to a fourth-place finish overall in a field of 14 teams. For many of the youngsters it was their first overseas meet, competing in a field of more than 465 swimmers from several US states.

Arabella Newport-Derbyshire captured silver medals in the girls 10-and-under 200 metre individual medley, 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly as well as bronze medals in the 50, 200 and 400 metres freestyle and 50 backstroke. Sienna Spurling captured bronze in the girls 10-and-under 100 breaststroke while Violet Smith won the bronze in the girls 10-and-under 100 backstroke.

In the boys 10-and-under age group, Jacob Wright and Tyler Coleman had strong finishes in all of their events. Wright captured bronze in the 50 freestyle and placed in the top eight in several other events while Coleman captured bronze in the 50 breaststroke and silver in the 100 breaststroke.

Elena Pearman hit a qualifying time for the Harbour Gold full-time programme in the 100 backstroke, while Somers Estwanik, Tyler Coleman and Charlotte Esperon made qualifying times for the Harbour Gold part-time programme.
