Personal bests dominate proceedings in Sharks sprint meet
Some 130 personal bests were set at Sharks autumn sprint meet at the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association pool on Saturday.
Despite a prolonged period of competition inactivity, competitors certainly showed their hard work and dedication in training is paying off.
Among the standout individual performers were Marleigh Howes, of Sharks Swim Club, and Arabella Newport-Derbyshire, of Harbour Amateur Swim Club. The former dropped 2.31 seconds off of her 100 freestyle time finishing in 1min 0.77sec, missing out going under the elusive one-minute mark. Howes also dropped a whopping 16.68 seconds off her 400 metres freestyle time.
Meanwhile, 11-year-old Newport-Derbyshire demonstrated her undoubted potential, setting personal bests in all three of her events, with the 200 backstroke seeing a 10:37 seconds dropped.
Not to be left out, there were some stellar performances by the boys, with Seth Samuels setting three personal bests during the morning with a combined drop time of some 39 seconds between the events
As well as many fine individual performances, it was the return of the Dolphins Swim Club to the pool that proved a particular highlight of the day. Head coach and former Olympic swimmer Victor Ruberry had his small but competitive squad make waves with some fine performances.
