Warwick Academy team hoping to make a splash in Pennsylvania
An all-female team of Warwick Academy swimmers will put their skills to the test competing in two meets in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The team will compete in the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championship, to be held today and tomorrow, as well as an Invitational meet with Germantown Academy on Sunday.
Warwick Academy’s eight- member team is comprised of Adriana Argent, Daria Desmond, Elanna Fulton, Bella Howes, Marleigh Howes, Gabbriella Mitchell, Tayla Horan and Taylor White.
Each swimmer is scheduled to compete in two individual races and as many relays.
“It is great to be back at this prestigious competition after missing last year,” said Ben Smith, the Warwick Academy head coach. “When we returned from the 2020 event the chaos of Covid began,” “So this is a big step towards normal.
“This competition is an opportunity to test our team against many of the East Coast powerhouses while giving our swimmers exposure to university recruiting.”
Argent is competing in the 100 and 200 freestyle, Desmond in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, Fulton in the 50 free and 100 back, while Bella Howes, Marleigh Howes and Gabbriella Mitchell are all competing in the 50 and 100 free.
Horan is competing in the 200 and 500 free and White in the 200 free and 100 back.
Senior duo Horan and White have been appointed joint team captains and are making their final appearance at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championship.
“They have been amazing members of the team,” Smith added. “The final night of competition takes time out to celebrate all of the senior swimmers.
“It will be sad to see them go but exciting to see them meet their next challenges.”
Fulton, Bella and Marleigh Howes are all making their debut at the annual swim meet.
