Jesse Washington fifth in 50 butterfly heat at World Championships

Jesse Washington was fifth in his butterfly heat at the Fina World Championships in Budapest

Jesse Washington got Bermuda’s campaign under way at the Fina World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, with a fifth-place finish in his 50 metres butterfly heat on Saturday.

The 23-year-old’s time of 25.59sec was a little ways down on his personal best of 25.23 set at the CAC Games in Baranquilla, Colombia, in 2018.

Washington was 55th out of 71 swimmers but only the 14 fastest moved on to the semi-finals.

He is next in action today in the 100 metres freestyle.

Madelyn Moore, the other Bermudian in Hungary, sees her first racing on Thursday in the 50 metres butterfly, followed by the 50 metres freestyle on Friday.
