Bermuda swimmers in hunt for more medals at CAC Games
Three of Bermuda’s swimmers have put themselves in medal contention at the Central American and Caribbean Games after qualifying for their respective finals.
Emma Harvey, who won Bermuda’s first medal of the Games when claiming silver in the 50 metres backstroke, booked her place in the 100 metres freestyle final after finishing third in heat three in 57.23sec.
Colombia’s Karen Durango won the heat in 56.61, with Cuba’s Andrea Becali second in 56.70.
Harvey will be joined in the final by compatriot Madelyn Moore, who sealed her spot with a third-place finish in the fourth heat, touching the wall in 57.64. Cuba’s Elisbet Gamez took victory in 56.78, with Mecixo’s Athena Meneses second in 57.60.
Also sealing progression was Jack Harvey, who booked his place in the 100 metres backstroke final after finishing second in heat two.
Harvey clocked 57.23, to finish behind Colombian Omar Pinzon’s winning time of 56.62, with Lamar Taylor, of the Bahamas, in third in 58.19.
Benedict Parfit came close to making it a full contingent of Bermuda’s swimmers to progress into finals but missed out in the 50 metres butterfly after finishing fifth in heat four in a time of 25.14. Carter Dylan, of Trinidad and Tobago, claimed victory in 24.04 ahead of Mexico’s Andres Dupont (24.30) and Taylor (24.96).
It will be a busy 15 minutes of action for Bermuda’s swimmers on Monday night with Moore and Emma Harvey contesting their final at 9.20pm Bermuda time, just eight minutes after Jack Harvey swims for a medal in his event.
