Elijah Daley wins gold medal at CCCAN Championships
Elijah Daley continued his fine form at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships by winning Bermuda’s first gold medal
Daley, who had already won bronze in the 200 metres individual medley, blasted off the blocks to take a huge lead in the 15-17 200 metres butterfly but was clinging on as he came out on top in a tight finish with less than a second separating the first three home.
Touching the wall in in a time of 2min 3.07sec, Daley narrowly beat Rodrigo Xavier Ventura from El Salvador, with Carlos Santiago Alcantara, from Mexico, rounding out the podium.
The young swimmer will not be able to celebrate victory too much with the Bermuda team confined to their hotel on Thursday as Tropical Storm Alberto makes its windy way across Mexico.
Connor Hupman also added to his medal haul by picking up his second bronze medal of the championships in the 13-14 50 metres freestyle.
Hupman finshed in a time of 24.77 behind Jaden Mills, of Trinidad & Tobago, (24.62) and Yanni Blanco Custodio, of Mexico.
