Logan Watson-Brown proud of PB at world championships
It’s been a world championships of achievement for Bermuda’s swimmers with Logan Watson-Brown celebrating a personal best in the 100 metres backstroke.
Watson-Brown stopped the clock in 1min 1.68sec to set her new best and was thrilled to achieve it in the least favourite of her two events in Budapest, Hungary.
“It really boosts my confidence for the 200 free,” Watson-Brown said.
“I was super happy with the swim, I went in with an open mind and being grateful for where I was and that I had reached one of my goals. Before and after was very nerve-racking but I just went with it and trusted myself and my training. When I touched the wall I was happy no matter what.”
The Short Course World Championships represents the biggest event that Watson-Brown has competed at and she managed to perform to her best despite the nerves and coming face to face with some of her idols.
“I don’t think I’ve been to any meet similar to this or anywhere near the same level,” Watson-Brown said.
“It was a completely different feeling. The warm-up is the same with all the craziness in the pool but then going into the call rooms and seeing all the big-name swimmers I’ve grown up watching, or seen at the Olympics this summer, in the same room, it opened my eyes to the fact I am here.
“I fangirled a little, obviously, because seeing them is completely different but then you remember they are a real person and you are at the same meet as them and you deserve to be where you are.
“Walking out into the arena and seeing all the people out there really got me nervous but I didn’t let it get into my head and tried my best.”
With one race down and one to go, the 21-year-old cannot wait to get back in the pool this weekend
“It gives me huge confidence and I’m so excited for Sunday morning,” Watson-Brown said.
“I mean I was always excited but now I have that one race under my belt, the next one is usually easier with the nerves and preparation.”
