Thomas Cechini wins second bronze medal at Carifta Games
Thomas Cechini has picked up his second medal of the Carifta Games after finishing third in the 200 metres freestyle.
A day after finishing third in the 1,500 metres freestyle, Cechini picked up his second bronze of the meeting after producing a strong finish to touch the wall in 1min 54.83sec.
With winner Liam Carrington clear of the field in lane one throughout and drawing along Ethan Stubbs-Green, from Antigua in lane two, Cechini was left to battle it out in lane five with little idea of what was going on towards the inside of the pool.
Only fifth at halfway, Cechini used his stamina to work his way through the field, eventually overhauling Stubbs-Green with 25 metres to go to earn his second visit to the Carifta Games podium.
Connor Hupman was also in the field, finishing eighth in his first attempt in the age group.
Also in the pool on Sunday night, Marleigh Howes was agonisingly short of joining Cechini on the podium after finishing fourth in the girls 15-17 butterfly.
Howes made a flying start but was just touched off at the wall, with this final coming just 15 minutes after she finished sixth in the 200 metres freestyle final.
Sylvia Lim finished eighth in the girls 11-12 100 metres backstroke final.
