Tatiana Sousa wins javelin silver medal at Carifta Games
Tatiana Sousa has won Bermuda’s second track and field medal at the 2025 Carifta Games after finishing second in the under-17 girls javelin on Monday morning.
Sousa threw a personal best of 42.24 metres with her first effort to claim the silver medal behind Zonique Charles of Antigua and Barbuda, who took gold with 45.73. The Warwick Academy student had more than seven metres to spare over Barbados’s Eboni Braithwate, who won bronze.
The success of Sousa sets up a potentially huge Monday for Bermuda’s athletes, with Miles Outerbridge, qualifying second fastest for tonight’s 200 metres final, Amaris Munya third-fastest in the under-17 girls 800 metres and Surii Russell fifth-fastest in the under-17 800 metres.
Bermuda’s under-17 boys 4x400m team failed to make it into the finals this morning.
Consisting of David Morris, Surii Russell, Sanchez Smith and Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert, Bermuda finished fourth behind powerhouses Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and the US Virgin Islands, crossing the line in 3min 37.11sec
