Acer Aspires to fill gap in market

One of the biggest issues I have is waiting for what seems like an eternity for my laptop to boot up and then having to lug it around to wherever I want to use it.Equally trying to access detailed or visual heavy content can be a challenge at the best of times on a smartphone or tablet. So Acer’s Aspire One netbook seemed like the perfect solution on first impressions it is sleek, light and portable and has a lot more going for it once you delve deeper inside.By making the chassis slightly wider than most netbooks, Acer has been able to incorporate a keyboard that’s 95 percent the size of a full laptop keyboard and you can touch-type at the same speed, although sometimes there is a delay in the text appearing on the screen.Another downside is the button mouse trackpad which can be hard to manoeuvre unless you have got all the time in the world to stop and press it quite deliberately from time to time.On the plus side, the 10.1-inch widescreen with LED backlight is easy to view and doesn’t cause as much eye fatigue as a smaller tablet. It also comes with all the standard USB ports, Ethernet port and microphone and headphone ports. The One run offs the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system with a 1.66 gigahertz Atom N570 processor and boasts one gigabytes (GB) of RAM and a 250GB hard disk drive.Easy to hook up to a wireless network, the Acer is the ideal companion for Skyping with family and friends although some of the videos I tried running on it proved to be a bit slow and jerky. All of the standard programmes are there including Acer specific applications such as Acer Games which provide some entertainment. Other features loaded ranged from eBay and Netflix to Times Reader and Nook for PC to access all your favourite deals, films and books. There are also files to stick your documents, pictures, music and videos. One or two times I tried connecting to Internet Explorer the home page took a while to open or froze and I had to restart the process, and then on one occasion it froze altogether when I had three screens running at the same time, but all in all when it is a joy to use when it is in full swing.Battery life was another sticking point it took a while to fully charge but ran down surprisingly quickly.Overall the Acer is a sold performer and at an attractive price point is well worth a consideration for those on the go who want to access the Internet quickly and fire off a few emails.Rating: 3 out of 5
