TECH TIP OF THE WEEK
Q: What is an IP address?A: An IP or internet Protocol address is an identifier issued by your ISP (internet Service Provider) and will appear as a series of numbers and dots such as 198.207.20.1.IP addresses can be dynamic or static and the type you require is determined by how you elect to use your internet service.IP addresses are required by any device connecting to the internet and generally dynamic IP’s are used among residential users. Dynamic IP’s change based on customer demand (each time a new connection is made) an IP address is issued. These are drawn from a shared pool, which in turn means the IP address you connect with will change at some point. Connecting with a dynamic IP doesn’t present an issue for most.Another common form of IP address is that of a Static IP, which simply means the user is issued with an address that will not change (regardless of how many times they connect and reconnect) and will remain in their possession until modified by their ISP. Static IP addresses are commonly used when setting up VPN’s and are usually sold as an additional feature.
