Walkers and TLC Group host free Pipa webinar

Melanie Fullerton, of Walkers Bermuda, left, and Taheera Lovell, of the TLC Group, are collaborating on a webinar on Pipa (Photograph supplied)

Walkers and the TLC Group will be holding a free Personal Information Protection Act webinar next week.

Melanie Fullerton, senior counsel at Walkers, and Taheera Lovell, co-founder and chief executive officer of the TLC Group will provide an overview of Pipa (as amended), with a focus on cross-border transfers and the actions organisations should be taking to ensure that personal information is transferred in a secure manner.

The webinar is open to Bermudian business owners and operators, as well as the public, and is an important reminder for the business community on how to navigate the parameters as set by the Pipa legislation.

Pipa was enacted in 2016, but has not yet been put into operation.

“All Bermuda residents enjoy the right to personal information privacy and protection, particularly where an individual's personal information is being transferred to a third party or overseas,” Ms Fullerton said.

“We expect our listeners to take away a robust understanding of not only the legal basis for protecting personal information but also practical steps that organisations can take to ensure compliance regardless of where an individual's personal information is being used”.

The webinar will be on Thursday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
