Champions crowned at Back To School tennis tournament

Brothers Raul and Manuel Maldonado met ib final of BLTA Back To School Tournament

The champions have been crowned at this year’s Bermuda Lawn Tennis AssociationBack To School junior tournament

Sponsored by AXA XL, the competition at WER Joell stadium was delayed as Hurricane Lee made its close pass to the island but there was still plenty of action to enjoy.

Family bragging rights was up for grabs in the final of the under-12 boys event as Raul and Manuel Maldonado faced off. It was older brother Raul who came out on top, beating his younger sibling 6-4, 6-1 in the final.

The BLTA were pleased to see an increased number of entries in the girls under-12 competition, which was won impressively by Chloe McBrearty, who did not drop a set and beat Lee Terceira in the final.

Bermuda has a potential rivalry to rank along with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic if the final of the under-16 boys event is anything to go back.

Sebastian Pukk won an epic three-hour match against Zach Maguire, triumphing 7-5, 7-6 (8) as both players thrilled spectators with their talent and determination.

Good friends Tristan Pettit and Tobiah Goodchild met in the under-14 boys final, with Pettit gaining the upper hand 7-5, 6-1.
