Pomander Gate A out to stretch lead in Winter Tennis League
Pomander Gate A have an opportunity to cement their place at the top of the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association Winter League men’s section when they face Pomander Gate B Pirates.
Pomander Gate head into the encounter on the back of a 9-0 victory over All Bermuda Tennis Club last time out, while Pirates will be looking to bounce back from a 6-3 defeat to defending champions Temple of Tennis.
In the other men’s fixture, ABTC are at home against Lambert Island Tennis.
TOT women are on top after defeating LIT 12-0 by winning all the four sets, and picked up three points for each set won. They are away to Double C at Reef Tennis Courts this afternoon, while Pomander Gate are home against LIT in the morning.
Michael Wolfe, the president of the BLTA, explained how the doubles league is structured.
“The men play in three doubles pairs and the women have an eight-game process,’’ he said.
“You end up with nine fixtures in the men’s category. They play one tiebreaker set, because it’s three teams, they end up playing a total of nine sets.
“For the women it’s two teams and they end up playing three sets. We actually award three points, if a team won both sets, those sets would be worth one point for the set and then three points for the win.”
