Jadon Spriggs, one of Bermuda’s rising stars, achieved success at the Universal Tennis Rating level-based tournament at the Casely Tennis Academy in Miami, Florida.

Spriggs, who celebrated his 15th birthday during tournament week, demonstrated resilience and determination on the court. He defeated Mexican challenger Areli Morales in straight sets to clinch the title with a resounding score of 4-1, 4-0.

His path to the final saw the Bermudian youngster battle to a hard-fought quarter-final victory over Canadian Fidel Ruff, with Spriggs prevailing 4-1, 5-4 (10-8).

Spriggs carried that momentum to the semi-finals, where he dominated against Colombian Tomas Arias. He comfortably won the encounter 4-0, 4-1.

Growth in confidence and using lessons learnt during his brief training stint at the Sarah Vande Berg Tennis Centre saw Spriggs head into the final full of belief.

Reflecting on his victory, Spriggs attributed his success to the training received both locally from his coaches and the instructions acquired at SVB Tennis Centre.

“I was feeling good about my game since I went to a tennis academy the week before,’’ Spriggs said.”

“I was just practising what I learnt from the academy during the tournament, which led me to win.”

Michael Wolfe, the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association president, expressed delight in the youngster’s victory.

“We are always proud of our youngsters when they compete and do well overseas,’’ he said. “We are all excited for Jadon and wish him much success.”
