Temple of Tennis win back-to-back league titles
Temple of Tennis have again completed an unbeaten season to win the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association Winter League
As they did last season, the team were impressive on their way to back-to-back titles, earning a maximum 18 points from their six fixtures without dropping a set and winning 85 per cent of the games.
Team captain Shonette Wilson was delighted with the way her team performed.
“With unwavering determination and skilful play, they dominated the courts and secured their well-deserved victory,’’ Wilson said.
“The team showcased exceptional teamwork and resilience throughout the season. Their dedication to making themselves available, showing up, and strategic gameplay propelled them to success.
“Key players such as Nadhira Durham and Airez Gilbert-Simons delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating their skilfulness with powerful serves and precise shots.
“Their individual talents combined seamlessly, forming a formidable force on the tennis court.
“Facing tough competition from rival teams, Josephine Wilson, Michele Hypolite, and Amber Simons remained focused and composed, rising to the occasion with each fixture.
“The team's ability to adapt to different playing styles and maintain composure under pressure was truly commendable.
“Amber played a pivotal role alongside the captain in guiding the team to victory providing invaluable support and motivation every step of the way.
“Her leadership inspired confidence in the players, enabling them to unleash their full potential on the court.
“Congratulations to our champions for their dedication, passion, and sportsmanship, which has led to their outstanding accomplishment.”
The men’s team also made it two in a row after winning 40 sets and losing just 11 to top their league with six points, two points clear of All Bermuda Tennis Club.
Hugh Seymour, the TOT men’s captain, conceded that it was a tough season with sides like ABTC and Pomander Gate A giving them a good run.
“We had some tough battles against Pomander Gate A and All Bermuda Tennis Club,’’ Seymour said.
“Pomander Gate came out strong in the first round. We managed to turn that fixture around and won it 7-2 and beat them again back at home.
“The most we lost was three sets against All Bermuda, who played really well to finish in second position and Pomander Gate A were third.
“Despite the bad weather, we were still able to play all our matches. Our top team were Jenson Bascome and Steve Bean, who won the majority of their sets in matches played.
“It was a very good season for us and we’re looking forward to next season.”
