Another night of squash dominance by top seeds
It was another session of serene progress by the men’s seeds at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club Championship on Tuesday.
The top-three seeds Kristian Muldoon, D’VArio Thompson and Jason Shrubb came through in straight sets against Andrew Cox, Benjamin Bramlett and Dylan Pratt respectively.
Fourth seed Neil Pohlmas was forced to work harder for his victory, losing the first set 9-11 to Jordache Rawson before taking the next three sets 11-6, 11-8 and 13-11 to make it through to the next round.
There was a similar story in the Women’s Open with the top four seeds all winning in straight sets. Eilidh Franklin, the top seed, beat Olivia Sherratt with Susie Howells, Abigail Brewer and Sydney Wallace beating Joann Bielby, Rose Paulos and Charlotte Toogood.
There were some tight games in the Men’s B competition as Jason Savoury came through in a five-set thriller against Hudson Ferris. Jeffrey Ingleman was taken to the wire by Michael Schrah before winning 11-7 in the fifth set with Otto Beyer also needing five sets to beat Rocco Adderley and Kevin Gillespie taken the distance by Harry Munro.
Jonah Every and Gary Furtado had things easier, defeating their opponents in straight sets.
There were just two matches in the Women’s B event, with Jessica Mapstone beating Lisa Froud in straight sets and Asa Zuill getting the better of Terrie Morris-Greenslade in five sets.
Already successful in the Women’s Open, Howells doubled up when defeating Bielby in the over-40 women’s competition.
In the Junior Boys Under-11 competition, Rian Moloney defeated Theo Usher-Jones and Zack McClure in the same night.
