Belco VIP Excellence Awards entry deadline extended

Know a good bartender? If so, you can nominate the person for the VIP Excellence Awards. This year marks the 11th Belco VIP Excellence Awards nominations are currently below average. No one has nominated a bartender, nor has anyone nominated a photographer or a housekeeper. Usually the VIP awards attracts 500 nominations. This year only 150 nominations have been made. The committee has decided to extend the deadline a week to ensure everyone has a chance to nominate his or her favourite.Gillian Outerbridge, who is a member of the committee, said she did not believe the lack of nominations had to do with a low number of visitors to the Island.“Normally, 50 percent of the nominations come in the last two or three days,” she said. “This isn't the first time we have extended the deadline. I don't think merit awards are based on the economic conditions. All over Bermuda there are individuals who go the extra mile to make our visitors' Bermuda experience truly memorable. Help us recognise and reward these individuals by nominating them for our annual awards and supporting the VIP initiative.”She added that the best nominations are detailed ones that outline how the person has gone above and beyond the call of duty. In total there are 18 categories ranging from airline personnel to front of house staff to tour guides.Winners in each category will receive a “great prize” according to the committee, while the overall Best of the Best winner will walk away with $20,000. The nominees should be self-motivated and exhibit an excellent attitude, a committee spokeswoman said. They should also have a strong work ethic and pride in their position. She added: Nomination forms are on the committee's website and are due February 13.Useful websites:www.bhi.bmwww.bermudatourism.comwww.experiencebermuda.com
