Gombeys step out to help US tourism drive

Bermuda Gombeys and pink-clad Island representatives visited Boston and Baltimore this week as part of a tourism campaign.The visits were the first of four scheduled stops on a media push for Bermuda tourism in the east of the US, with stops still planned for New York and Atlanta.In Boston, travellers passing through South Station were greeted with steel pan music, Bermuda banners and tourist representatives offering an opportunity to win a trip for two to Bermuda.Last week, Tourism representatives took to Baltimore to promote AirTran’s new service between the city and the Island, with activities taking place at Penn Station and the Gallery Mall.Bermuda Gombeys also appeared on Baltimores WBAL-TV, having a live performance on the NBC affiliate’s evening news.Department of Tourism officials also met with travel agents in both cities, hosting dinners at the Top of the Hub Restaurant at the peak of Boston’s Prudential Tower and Baltimore’s National Aquarium.Tourism Minister Patrice Minors said: “Boston and Baltimore are both important markets for Bermuda.“Our team has worked very hard to ensure that Bermuda was top of mind for potential visitors with their high energy campaign, and our presence in these cities served as a reminder of Bermuda’s proximity and convenience while building the buzz for the destination.”lUseful website: www.gov.bm.
