City gives Harbour Nights a $15,000 boost
Harbour Nights has been given an unexpected cash boost for the rest of this summer.The City of Hamilton has pledged an extra $15,000 of sponsorship to Front Street’s weekly late night of shopping and entertainment.The donation was announced at the city meeting this week. Deputy Mayor Glen Smith said his organisation owed retailers its support.Alderman Pamela Ferreira questioned how the money could be raised, given the city’s tight budget for the year.Councillor Dennis Tucker, reporting on this month’s meeting of the City’s finance committee, said the group had agreed simply to give the Chamber an additional $15,000.Asked by Ms Ferreira if the money would be trimmed from the city’s events budget, he said: “We have not agreed to, but we are looking at some other ways to reduce spending. No decision has been made, but we need to give Harbour Nights our support.”Alderman John Harvey agreed: “To me, this is a contribution to the Country.
