Bermuda hotelier wins global tourism awards

Hotelier David Dodwell has every reason to celebrate as he’s beaten off competition to notch up another couple of global tourism awards.The Reefs in Southampton has been recognised by Travel + Leisure magazine in its recently announced 2011 World’s Best Awards.For the 14th consecutive year the beach resort has been named among the top 25 hotels in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas.The Reefs came in at number 15 and is described as a resort that “offers a variety of room options, including cottages nestled among pristine limestone cliffs with dramatic views of Bermuda’s south shore”.The Reefs’ La Serena Spa also made its debut on the list, being named among the top ten best hotel spas in the Caribbean.Mr Dodwell’s other hotel, Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on Nevis, was named the number one hotel in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas for the second year and a number 15 spot on the top 50 hotels in the world list.Mr Dodwell, who earlier this year was named hotelier of the year by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, said the awards “truly honoured” the leadership and staff at both resorts.He said: “I am extremely proud of their efforts and commitment to delivering exceptional service to our guests and a memorable vacation.”Mr Dodwell travelled to the awards ceremony last week in Los Angeles, California.It was the travel magazine’s 16th annual awards, which asks readers to rate their favourite hotels, cities, islands, cruise lines, airlines, car-rental agencies, spas, tour operators and safari companies.Hotels are rated based on rooms, facilities, location, service, restaurant, food and value.The 2011 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards are online at www.travelandleisure.com and will be featured in the August issue of the magazine, which is now on sale.
