Town Cut meeting delayed
The Corporation of St George will learn the results of a report on Town Cut next week, after a scheduled Tuesday meeting was cancelled.St George Mayor Kenneth Bascome said the results of a study ordered last year into the possibility of modifying Town Cut would be released at the meeting between the Corporation and the Department of Marine and Ports.Straightening, widening or dredging the Town Cut is seen by many as a way of helping the St George’s economy, which has suffered from a decline in visiting cruise ships. The limited size of the passageway, along with the increasing size of cruise ships in service, has made it more and more difficult to find a ship suitable for St George’s.Mr Bascome said yesterday that the meeting is now expected to take place next week.He has said that once the Corporation has all the details of the report, it will consider its options and reach out to the public for feedback.
