UK travel industry leaders turn out to Tourism media breakfast

The Bermuda Department of Tourism hosted a media breakfast for “high calibre” names in international travel industry publications in the ongoing bid to boost UK tourism arrivals.The event, which was held at the Sofitel Hotel in London was attended by representatives from Condé Nast Traveller, Tempus, the Evening Standard and luxury travel bloggers Our Man on the Ground.Trade media titles aimed at travel agents to “aid selling destinations”, were also in attendance, including Travel Weekly and TTG Luxury.On hand for the event held on April 18 to network with key tourism representatives were BDOT Director William Griffith, Ann Shutte, who heads up the department’s Global Operations and Publicasity, the UK PR team.According to Mr Griffith, the event generated “numerous leads”, and there were several meetings with key Bermuda tour operators, including Prestige and Purely Bermuda, in addition to British Airways, national publication, The Daily Telegraph, and many others.The ‘Compliments of Bermuda’ offer was of particular interest. Two publications have already confirmed coverage on the $500 credit promotion in the UK.Mr Griffith said: “Thirteen hotels are participating and it is being sold by all major tour operators.”The credit is attained on a minimum five-night stay in Bermuda, bookings can be made until May 31 for travel through to September 30.
