Tourism ambassadors in line for awards
Island ambassadors who go the extra mile to ensure holidaymakers enjoy their stay in Bermuda are to be recognised at an awards ceremony next month.The annual Visitor Industry Partnership (VIP) Excellence Awards has received hundreds of nominations from the public recognising key staff in the Tourism industry - from cheerful bellmen to industrious travel agents, dedicated housekeepers and helpful taxi drivers.Judges are now working through the nominations to select the winners of 18 main categories. Their verdicts will be announced at a black tie dinner at the Southampton Princess Hotel on April 13.A spokesman for VIP said: “This is the annual opportunity to recognise those who go above and beyond the call of duty in the visitor industry.“Nominations for the awards include a huge variety of tourism occupations within the 18 main categories. Category 9 for example, Heart of the House Award, includes best kitchen, purchasing, security, facilities maintenance, engineer, laundry and valet employee.“This year’s nominations totalled in the hundreds and the judges had a challenging time choosing between so many industry superstars.”Winners in each of the 18 categories win travel prizes donated by leaders in the visitor industry.
