April is Hospitality Month

The month of April has been designated as Hospitality Month with a host of events on tap organised by the Department of Tourism and the Bermuda Hospitality Institute (BHI).Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell officially launched the events with students and guests last week for the “betterment of the industry”.Since April 2010, BHI has worked to link hospitality businesses with the greater community through promotional activities “designed to showcase their services; job and career training”.“Bermuda owes much of our wealth and good fortune to hospitality,” said Mr Crockwell. “Indeed, Bermuda was the pioneer in many aspects of hospitality which created jobs, development and opportunities for Bermudians.“Countless millions of visitors have also enjoyed Bermuda during the past century,” he said. “We have hosted Kings and Queens, Presidents, famous writers and artists, sporting legends and families from all corners of the globe who came to experience Bermuda first hand — to see why we are so much more,” he said. For the entire month there will be activities for all ages “to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike”.Highlights include Hospitality Trail Guides and tours, special promotions, incentives, contests and the Plates of Passion Chef and Culinary Student Dinner at the Bermuda College on April 25.BHI CEO Karla Lacey said: “The Hospitality Trail Guides were developed to encourage the community at large to get out and experience the Island through new eyes.“There are opportunities in April that aren’t normally open to the general public. For example, being able to enjoy a complementary continental breakfast at the Royal Palms Hotel.”Copies of the City and Central Hospitality Trail schedules can be obtained at various locations.
