Bermuda: ‘Next great Hamptons alternative’
Bermuda could be “the next great Hamptons alternative”, according to a Bloomberg luxury travel article.
The piece, “Why Bermuda Should Be Back on Your Travel Radar”, was published on Wednesday and describes itself as a guide to the “island paradise” during the America’s Cup, including new hotels and restaurants to visit.
It features eye-catching photographs of Horseshoe Bay, Hamilton Harbour, The Loren and Hamilton Princess and Beach Club and superyacht Arabella, which has been in Bermuda’s waters for the Cup.
Caroline Bay co-developer Sandra Christensen, described as a torchbearer reinvigorating the island’s image, told the publication: “Until not too long ago, much of the island’s development was more focused on business growth than anything else.
“Roughly a decade ago, the island started to reconsider tourism.”
The article lists growing arrival figures and a surge of hotel developments, continuing: “Add a major airport expansion, set for completion in 2020, and Bermuda may be the next great Hamptons alternative.”
On Bermuda’s attractiveness as a tourism destination, the article states: “The island’s natural beauty and proximity to the American Northeast are severely underutilised tourism assets. So are new, year-round JetBlue flights from New York that arrive within an hour and a half.”
It also includes suggestions of places to visit, such as Barracuda Grill, the Cottage Café and Bistro, Tempest, Bolero, Harry’s and Port O’ Call.
