Snow-bound Boston residents were given a glimpse of balmy Bermuda.

For broadcaster WCVB 5, an ABC affiliate in the city, rebroadcast a special segment on Bermuda on its current affairs show Chronicle.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority said the timing of the repeat last Tuesday, first shown last year, highlighted the comparative warmth of the island.

Glenn Jones, BTA director of public and stakeholder relations, said: “Timing is a major part of marketing success.

“While New Englanders had to shelter in their homes from a blizzard, we were pleased that Chronicle re-aired its Bermuda segment.”

Mr Jones added: “Our PR team worked closely with WCVB on that piece because the Boston area is such an important market for us.”

The segment featured St George’s, the America’s Cup and the Loren hotel and the shows hosts pointed out that the island’s temperature was in the 70s this week.

Boston yesterday was blanketed in 13.4 inches of snow delivered by a massive winter storm.

Bermuda also got some media attention in Washington DC after Fox 5 ran a short segment on the Georgetown swim and dive team visiting the island for winter training camp.

Mr Jones said: “Again, because Washington DC is an important market for Bermuda tourism, our team worked quickly to assist the DC news team with video assets to get the story on the air.”
