BHI opens scholarship application process
The Bermuda Hospitality Institute is looking for students studying tourism for its annual scholarships.
The Tomasz Tabor Bermuda Hospitality & Tourism Studies Scholarship was launched four years ago in tribute to the late chef.
Malika Cartwright, executive director of the BHI, said recipients are selected based not only on their academic achievements, but their financial needs.
“In some cases the support has meant a world of difference,” she said.
“By lifting a burden for our young people who otherwise might not have known where the money was coming from to finish their studies, we hope they can focus 100 per cent on their studies and return to Bermuda with a passion for bettering our hospitality product.”
Applications for the annual award will remain open until April 30.
Students must have a GPA of at least 2.5, have been accepted by an accredited institution and be studying in a hospitality or tourism-related field.
Applicants must also have Bermudian nationality and have been educated on the island for at least two years.
Those who apply will be asked to provide proof of Bermudian status or a permanent resident’s certificate, their most recent transcripts, an academic letter of recommendation and a personal letter of recommendation.
They will also need an acceptance letter, if available, a letter from the college stating tuition costs, a financial needs form and will be required to complete a 250-word essay about how their skills and studies will benefit Bermuda’s hospitality industry.
