Sandcastles of the season!

Santa Claus came early to Horseshoe Bay this weekend when Hannah Emmerson and Mikal Thomas produced their own take on a Bermuda Christmas.

Ms Emmerson and Mr Thomas are the organisers of the Bermuda Sandcastle Competition on Labour Day every year.

But they regularly build sandcastles throughout the year and share them on social media to inspire potential competitors.

On Sunday they spent six hours building and carving their holiday sandcastle – and were pleased to see several families on the beach building their own creations.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s competition was limited to two categories and 20 teams, down from the usual 40, but Ms Emmerson said she hoped the full contest would take place in 2021.

“We try to hold workshops throughout the year but that has been tricky with Covid,” she said. “But it’s not as difficult as people think.”
