United Airlines is to resume daily flights to Bermuda from Newark, US, in early May.

The flights were suspended owing to Covid-19.

Glenn Jones, interim chief executive at the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said: “This announcement echoes what we’ve been hearing in our talks with United Airlines and matches what we’ve previously relayed to our stakeholders.

“We are pleased to know that United will return to serving Bermuda out of Newark this summer, providing more options for direct service to Bermuda for our visitors from the tri-state area.

“We’re equally pleased that London service from Heathrow on British Airways launches Tuesday, direct service from Charlotte kicks off with American Airlines on Friday and this past Sunday direct service from Boston restarted with JetBlue.

“Every day the BTA is working hard to generate leisure traveller demand in a very difficult environment.

“Having increased airline seat capacity is vital; it’ll fuel the island’s tourism recovery.”
